Girl’s Soccer Team Picks Up a Tie and a Victory: D2 Tournament Opener June 3

The Barron-Bloomer-Cumberland Girl’s Soccer Co-op tied Menomonie 3-3 and defeated Amery 4-0 in Soccer play last week. The team finishes up the regular season schedule with a contest played in Spooner on Tuesday and a 5:00 pm match-up this Thursday, May 30, against St. Croix Central in Barron. The team then moves into WIAA D2 Tournament play on Tuesday, June 3, when they head to Superior to take on the Spartans at 5:00 pm.

Trailing 2-1, the team came back to pick up the 3-3 tie with a two-goal second half against Menomonie on May 19. Kaafivo Hassan had two scores for the Bears, while Tinlee Jeffrey had 19 saves and Alivia Rick two more in the Bears goal.

The team then responded three nights later with a strong night of soccer and a 4-0 shutout over Amery. “We had a good night with the entire team working well together. We were connecting on some really nice passes and the entire team was involved,” said Coach Sarah Stauner about the team’s effort.

The team’s defense held the Amery team to four shots on goal, while Kasey Stauner had two scores for the victors.
