Girl’s Softball Season Ends in Northwestern
The Cumberland Girl’s Softball Season came to an end last Tuesday, May 27, with a 4-0 loss to the 18 and 3 Northwestern Tigers in a WIAA Regional contest in Maple. For the season, Cumberland finishes with a final record of 13 and 15.
The game was dominated by the Tigers outstanding pitcher Ellie Peterson. One of the best in Northern Wisconsin, Peterson is committed to North Dakota State next fall and was named the Conference’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Peterson struck out 15 hitters in the contest, while only allowing only a pair of singles to Morgan Monchilovich, who had a strong game for Coach Jessica Olson. Monchilovich additionally pitched six innings in the loss, holding the powerful Tigers to six hits, while striking out four. Besides her two safeties, the Cumberland Senior added a pair of stolen bases.
“We played a solid game with no errors. They just had a D1 pitcher we struggled to hit,” added Olson. Northwestern went on to defeat Spooner 5-4 in the Regional Championship game and will appear in the WIAA Sectional which was played on Tuesday night.
