Golf Team Continues to Have Solid Start to Season

The Cumberland Golf Team continued to play competitive golf last week, defeating Ashland 171-195, losing to 2024 State qualifier Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 154-169, and finishing 19th at the two-day Scott Miller Golf Tournament at Big Fish in Hayward on Friday and Saturday.

Senior Derrick Gideo played excellent golf to lead the way for the Beavers, shooting a 38 against the Oredockers and a 37 against the Bulldogs, before shooting a 36-hole total of 152 in Hayward to finish tenth overall out of 120 golfers.

Also shooting well for Coach Mike Gideo included Max Hoff, who registered a 41 against Ashland and a 39 against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, while adding a 73rd place finish with a 180 in Hayward.

At Big Fish, Senior Brody Chartraw and Jack Richter added totals of  187 and Shae Longtine a 197. Hudson won the 26-team event by 14 strokes over Chippewa Falls.

“The team performed well against strong competition in Hayward and now it’s time to get back to work and get ready for the rest of the season,” added Coach Gideo. The HON Conference Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, in Hayward.

The Beavers started off this week with a match against Hayward on Monday before heading to Ladysmith this Friday for a match at Tee-A-Way Golf Course.
