Cumberland Beavers Golf Season Ends at WIAA Sectional
The Cumberland Beavers saw their 2025 season come to an end at last week’s WIAA D3 Golf Sectional at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake. The team finished in eighth place in the 13-team field, which was won by Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, who shot a team score of 313. Prentice also advanced to State with a second-place score of 326.
Tucker Johnson of Neillsville and Simon Cole of Ladysmith tied for Medalist Honors with matching scores of 74. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser dominated the competition, placing three players among the top six scorers.
For the Beavers, Derrick Gideo finished his high school career with an 82 to finish tied for 14th and 15th place. He enjoyed a strong senior year, including taking Medalist Honors at the HON Conference Tournament.
Teammates Brody Chartraw and Max Hoff each shot 91, while Jack Richter added a 93. Coach Mike Gideo was happy with the season, which was one of the team’s best in several years. “We played in a strong Conference and improved throughout the spring. Getting to Sectionals as a team was also a highlight. I want to thank the kids for their hard work and the Cumberland Golf Course and school ministration for their help and support throughout the season.”
