🛕 Mrs. Stone’s 5th graders recently wrapped up their study of the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations as part of our CKLA reading curriculum pilot!
After reading and learning about these civilizations together in class, students wrote paragraphs explaining how each civilization farmed by paraphrasing the information they had learned. Then they combined their writing to create their own codex, an ancient handwritten book used by the Maya to keep records.
To make their codices look authentic, students crinkled their papers, added mud, and decorated them with ancient symbols. The finished projects turned out amazing! 📜
Take a look at the photos to see our #CSDGoBeavers historians proudly showing off their codex creations! 😊

🌟 It’s been a busy and exciting time for the Cumberland FFA!
💙 Six Cumberland FFA members competed in the Sectional Leadership Development Events in Bloomer on March 4, showcasing their leadership skills and representing Cumberland with pride.
💛 To celebrate National FFA Week, members also spread some appreciation throughout the community by delivering surprise Saturday morning donuts to local farms.
💙 The celebration continued at school with a fun FFA-hosted assembly featuring the always-entertaining Ag Olympics, bringing students together for some friendly competition and agricultural-themed fun.
Great work to our #CSDGoBeavers FFA members for their leadership, service, and school spirit!

Last week our Middle School students wrapped up National FFA Week with Flannel Friday! 🌾🧡
It was a fantastic week of dressing up while learning about the importance of agriculture, leadership, and their future. If you have the chance, take a moment to thank a farmer for all they do! 🙌

⚠️ CAUTION! 1st Grade Authors & Illustrators at work!
Mrs. Picknell's BASE students worked extra hard to become published authors this week! They created their story to match the pictures in a short story about a penguin who went fishing. 🎣🐧
These #CSDGoBeavers authors put their brains to work to come up with an idea, write & edit, AND color their pictures. Their hard work didn't go unnoticed! Way to go 1st grade! 💪🏼

❄️🎿 The Cumberland XC Ski Club hit the trails in Cable, WI for an exciting day of racing!
Our skiers participated in the Barnebirkie and the Junior Birkie races, and what a fantastic afternoon it was! From the first stride to the finish line, it was so much fun cheering on and supporting every one of these amazing athletes. We are SO proud of them and they did it! 👏
After a day on the trails, they made the perfect stop to refuel and celebrate at Coop’s Pizza in Hayward. 🍕 Nothing better than great food and even better company after a big race day!
A huge thank you to all of the parents for supporting this club and making the drive to cheer on our skiers. Your encouragement means everything! ❤️
Good luck to those gearing up for the Prince Haakon and the American Birkebeiner — we’ll be cheering you on! 🎉

The Cumberland Fifth Graders’ Wax Museum was a total success! 🎭
Students researched a person of their choice, wrote a paper, and brought history to life by presenting their speeches at the event. All the nerves leading up to the big day were more than worth it. We are so proud of every student!

💡⚙️ Five of our 5th graders had an amazing opportunity to represent our school with Mrs. Stone at the STEM Olympics hosted by CESA 11!
Students spent the morning exploring hands-on STEM activities, including programming robot cars, building with Strawbees, creating circuits, and solving math brain teasers. In the afternoon, they put their learning to the test by competing in four different STEM challenges against other schools.
We are incredibly proud to share that our team took 1st place out of 9 teams! Way to go, future innovators! 🎉

🍽️ Mrs. Stone’s and Mrs. Marschall’s 5th graders have been busy building life skills for the kitchen! Once a month, students get the chance to cook and learn the basics of preparing simple meals. This month, they learned how to make grilled cheese sandwiches on the griddle.
Students had a great time working together, practicing safe cooking skills, and of course enjoying their delicious creations! 🧀🥪

⛷️ Oh the places we go...Last week was Timberland Hills lighted trail!
The groomed trails were fantastic, the temperature ideal, and the community support was top notch. Todd Sandman, Louis Muench, Amanda Jobe, Isaac and Jake Lundquist all showed up to help our ski club members get some tips on classic and skate skiing. Then to end the perfect evening, Amanda Lundquist arrived with hot chocolate and cookie bars for everyone. Thank you to all of those who helped make this night of skiing so wonderful! ☕️🍪

🚗 Our 5th grade students used the Engineering Design Process to build a slingshot car!
The materials they could use were four bottle caps, two straws, two wooden skewers, 10 popsicle sticks, a rubber band, and tape. The cars were launched by hooking the rubber band to a pencil taped to the floor, pulling the car back, and letting go! The students had so much fun using their creativity and problem solving skills during this challenge! 😊👍

Mrs. Stone’s 5th grade scientists are hard at work exploring the engineering design process! 🚗💨
Students took on a STEM challenge to design and build a balloon-powered car using a plastic bottle, wooden skewers, straws, bottle caps, tape, a balloon, and a rubber band. Their goal was to create a car that could move using only the air released from the balloon.
Through testing and redesigning, students learned firsthand how engineers solve problems and improve their designs. We’re excited to share pictures and a video of our students in action, along with our top-performing cars! 👏🔧
