Girl’s Soccer Team Picks up Win and Two Ties
The Barron-Cumberland-Bloomer Girl’s Soccer Team was busy last week, as they picked up a win and two ties against strong opposition.
Things began last Monday with a trip to Superior and a 3-1 victory over the Spartans. The score remained scoreless in the contest at intermission. Superior then broke the tie with a goal early in the second half, but the Barron-Cumberland-Bloomer squad responded with three goals of their own, taking the road victory.
Kasey Stauner had all three of the victor’s scores.
“The coaches were extremely proud of how well the team played against the talented, physical Superior team,” said Head Coach Sarah Stauner.
The remainder of the week found ties against Eau Claire North and Washburn.
Eau Claire North traveled to Endeavor Stadium last Tuesday, where the two teams played to a scoreless 0-0 score in cold and rainy conditions. The defense, including Cumberland’s Jasmine Woodley, was superb in the contest as was goaltender Rayna Hauck.
Thursday’s contest against Washburn ended in a 1-1 tie. Coach Stauner again praised the defense with, “An impressive night against an aggressive offense from Washburn. We have a defense our opponents don’t want to see.”
Barron-Cumberland-Bloomer scored their only goal late in the contest, when Baylee Shatley scored her first tally of the season.
The team has home contest against Osceola and Amery in Barron this week, with Thursday’s game starting at 7:00 pm and Friday’s at 5:00 pm.
