Soccer Team Suffers Two One Goal Losses
“They were two disappointing outcomes,” said Head Coach Brent Sellent about his team’s 2-1 and 1-0 losses last week as the Cumberland Soccer Team played Regis and Spooner. They were back in action this past Tuesday in Hayward and then return home to Endeavor Stadium this Thursday night for a 5:00 pm contest against Amery. Next Tuesday, September 22, they entertain Barron, also at home, in a 4:30 pm match-up.
“The boys had one of our best passing games of the year, but could not get anything past their goal tender until late in the contest when Bryan Sonora scored,” said Coach Sellent about the Regis loss.
It was unfortunately a similar theme in the shutout defeat by Spooner. “Our defense, led by Cash Rouzer, Mason Capra, Max Weise, Austin Hornstein and Carson Hornstein, made it tough for the Rails to take high-quality shots, while Parker Peterson was excellent in goal. We just didn’t score,” said Sellent about the loss. He added, “Size and numbers seem to be a common theme this year, and it’s one thing that we don’t have.”
