Beavers Football Season Ends with 49-7 Loss to Ashland

The Cumberland Football Team saw the 2026 season come to an end last Friday night with a 49-7 loss to the Ashland Oredockers. Ashland will take a 6-3 record into the WIAA playoffs this Friday, while the Beavers end their year with a 2 and 7 mark.

The Beavers started the year with a pair of victories but saw injuries thin out an already small roster, making it tough to compete against the rest of the league. The Beavers played a solid first half against the large Ashland squad, trailing only 14-0 at halftime, but injuries and a thinned-out roster again caused them to struggle after intermission.

The Beavers’ lone score was an 18-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Colton Gramberg to senior Max Odden. Gramberg completed five of 10 passes in the contest for 35 yards, while Odden caught two balls for 20 yards. For the season, Odden caught 13 balls for 356 yards and five scores.

Mitchell Monchilovich rushed 12 times for 43 yards to lead the Cumberland ground game, which had 52 yards on 18 carries in the contest. For the season, the Cumberland senior led the Beavers with 402 yards on 84 carries as the Beavers averaged 203 yards of total offense per game on the year.

Defensively, Cumberland had strong efforts from a number of players, including sophomore Jake Gilbertson, who had 13 tackles and a sack in the contest. Odden and Monchilovich added 11 tackles each and junior Rhowan Ruppel seven. Odden had a strong final campaign, leading the Beavers with 79 tackles on the year, while Gilbertson added 59.

Coach Lauterbach loses eight seniors from this year’s team: Monchilovich, Odden, Hunter Fowler, Graier Corns, Aiden Hartman, Jared Wilcox, Gabe Graf, and Brody Gilbertson. Brody Gilbertson missed all but the season’s first game with an injury, costing the Beavers a two-time first-team All-Conference selection.

Lauterbach added, “I am proud of the fight we showed this year. We faced a lot of adversity that was out of our control, mainly injuries to a lot of starters. Young kids got a lot of varsity reps, and that should help us moving forward. This season started hot, and we saw what we could do, and now we have to work all offseason to get ourselves there again and further in 2027.”

The Beavers have seven juniors and 10 sophomores listed on this year’s roster.
