Girl’s Golf Team Finishes Fifth in Northwestern Invitational
It was a good week for the Cumberland Girl’s Golf Team as they took first in a five-team meet on their home course on Tuesday, September 8 and then finished fifth in a 14-team meet held by Northwestern at Hidden Greens in Solon Springs on Thursday, September 10.
In their home meet, Cumberland defeated Barron, Cameron, Grantsburg and Luck by shooting a team score of 214. Cameron finished second with a 222. Cumberland’s Makenzie Tahtinen was Medalist with a 48, while Freshman Zoey Brandenhoff tied for second with a 51. Freshman Lilli Herman was a third Cumberland golfer in the top five finishers with a 54.
“It was nice to play on our home course as the girls felt very comfortable sand it helped them play well,” said Head Coach Jess Olson.
In Thursday’s 18-hole competition, Hayward defeated Spooner by one stroke, 400 to 401. Cumberland finished fifth with a 450.
Spooner’s Avery Voeltz was Medalist with an 80, while Cumberland’s top finisher was Tahtinen, who finished tied for 10th with a 106. Brandenberg continued her excellent freshman campaign with a 107, while Lilli Herman shot 118 and Raegan Beecroft 119.
“It was exciting to see Makenzie finish in the top ten as well as see two freshmen like Zoey and Lilli play such good golf,” concluded Coach Olson.
