Hayward Co-op Girl’s Hockey Team Drops Sectional Semifinal in Overtime
The contest ended in the toughest way possible, in overtime, as the Hayward Co-op battled back from a two-goal deficit to tie their Sectional Semifinal against Superior/Northwestern last Tuesday at 2-2 in regulation. Unfortunately, the Spartans Adalyn Benson scored the winner at 1:46 of the extra frame for the victory. Superior/Northwestern went on to win the Sectional, 7-0, over Northland Pines, making the loss even tougher.
The team finishes with an overall record of 12-12-2. Cumberland Sophomore Olivia Holzman-Byrne had a nice year for the team, scoring three goals and adding five assist on the season.
Superior/Northwestern will join the De Pere Co-op, the Sun Prairie West Co-op and River Falls/Baldwin Woodville/St. Croix Central in the State Tournament, which begins this Thursday, March 5.
