SOS (Students Offering Support)
The peer facilitator philosophy is based on the understanding that as youth we relate best to each other. Due to our direct involvement with issues of concern, our personal experience with peer pressure and its effects, and our ability to communicate in the same language, we, as teens, have access to a population that often is foreign to adults. Further, it is our belief that teens trained to be peer facilitators have the potential to have a positive impact on the student population.
Goals of SOS
- To promote positive attitudes and lifestyles.
- To promote self-confidence.
- To promote non-use of chemicals.
- To help others.
- To be a positive role model.
- To have fun while learning facilitation skills.
A peer facilitator Is:
NOT a counselor . . .NOT a problem-solver.
A peer facilitator is:
A resource person . . .A helper to those who need assistance.
A peer facilitator is:
a LINK between students and key resource people.
Students join their 10th-grade year. They are admitted two different ways: First, they can join if they are voted in by their peers. Second, they may choose to complete an application. Advisor: Kristy Thompson
