The Cumberland Girl’s Basketball Team saw their season come to an end last Tuesday, when they dropped a 60-25 decision to the Shell Lakers in a D4 WIAA Tournament opener in Shell Lake.
Shell Lake took a 34-17 lead into halftime in the contest and outscored Cumberland 26 to eight in the second half to roll to the victory. The Lakers were defeated by Eau Claire Regis 70-33 in the Tournaments second round on Friday night.
Cumberland struggled shooting in the contest going 10 for 56 from the floor, while hitting only two of 22 three-point attempts.
Freshman Raegan Beecroft led the team with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Melody Taylor contributed six points and 12 boards. The Red and White battled gamely, but were unable to keep up to a deeper Shell Lake Team. as they have all season but came up
Coach Kim Welch said, “This is a great bunch of young ladies. They worked hard and we saw lots of improvement during the season. We created lots of great memories this season. Senior’s Alora Garibaldi and Lizzie Mathison did a great job of being leaders on and off the court and will be missed.”
The team is traveling to the Gophers versus Iowa game in Minnesota on Wednesday night.
