Soccer Team Goes 2 and 1; Posts Two More Shutout Victories
The Barron-Cumberland-Bloomer Soccer Team put two more victories together last week to go along with a tough, but well-played 2-1 loss to Ashland, to raise their overall record to 9-2-3 on the 2024 season. The team has a remarkable nine shutouts during the year, including a 0-0 tie early in the season.
The victories came 8-0 over Spooner and 1-0 against Medford.
Goalie Rayna Houck was outstanding during the two victories, while getting great help from a strong defense, which includes Cumberland’s Jasmine Woodley. “Our focus during the week was on passing, communication and good ball movement and I thought we accomplished our goals,” said Head Coach Sarah Stauner.
Tinlee Jeffrey had the team’s lone goal in the victory over Medford, while both Jeffery and Kasey Stauner picked up a pair of scores in the Spooner win.
The lone loss was a 2-1 loss to State Ranked Ashland, who have given the team both of their losses this spring. “Despite the loss, this was our best game of the season. The team really came together, working as a team and digging deep to battle this very skilled Ashland team. We are extremely proud of all of the players and this game provides momentum as we move into the second half of the season and continue to prepare for playoffs in a higher division,” concluded Coach Stauner.
The team played at Washburn on Tuesday, before hosting Hayward in Barron at 5:00 pm on Thursday. Friday, the team then heads to Altoona for a 7:00 pm contest against the Rails.
